Orbit SLR
Retrofit components from Reefgeek.com for upgrade to Orbit SLR. The service and packaging was outstanding. I am very satisfied with my purchase and will be going back for more goodies.
Giesemann 6000k Midday bulbs and really nice Icecap SLR reflectors. This is enough to do retrofit on 4x96w Orbit.
The reflector layout pictured above is 31" x 10 1/4". The 4x96w Orbit lighting pane is 35 1/2" x 10 1/4". The SLR reflectors are going to be shorter then the OEM bulb reflector by 2" on each side. Boy the 96w power compact bulbs are perfect for the 36" tank.
Taking the fixture apart was easy. Its a quality unit! All the OEM mounting parts did the job for replacements. Do not try this at home.
I could not bring myself to destroy the nice OEM reflector so I built my own repacement out of sheet metal. Raw metal can cut your skin easily. You only need one ballast in the 2x39w fixture. The layout pictured above has a switch and required ballast for each bulb. Do not try this at home.

The final product. The moon lights can be pinched in between reflectors to provide all OEM features. Since the OEM fan can get a bit noisy the fan was upgraded to an 80 mm Papst 8412NGLE which requires DC power cord. Only use the right materials for the job. Water proof end caps are a must. Sheild your electronics from any exposure to water. Do not try this at home.
This is my best fixture for the freshwater planted tank. Active cooling, light weight, low wattage/high efficiency, sleek looks, moonlighting and it mounts right onto the tank. Hopefully Current USA's new fixtures will be more like this ;)
